who we are

President

Tom Beard

This is my third year on the Lexington Arts Council board.

I also represent the Kansas City region on the board of the state arts organization MACAA (Missouri Association of Community Arts Agencies). What's My Art?  Photography.  My photography is displayed at some of the regional art shows.

Membership Leader

Liz Fenner

A lifelong resident of Lexington, I have been active in the arts council since it’s beginning in 2014. I have served as secretary and as president two years. For the past three years I have chaired the Lexington Fine Arts and Photography Show in connection with Apples, Arts & Antiques.
What’s my art? I have no particular talent, but a deep appreciation of art in all  its forms. I show this appreciation by helping to provide opportunities for others to display and market their art and supporting local artists whenever possible. e.g. River City  Players, Wind Symphony, Chorus of Friends, Gallery 1029, school productions and local merchants.

Communications Leader

Katherine Rowland

Officially part of the council since 2017, Katherine has taken role of communications leader. She maintains website development and social media outreach.

Vice-President

Shirley Slayton

Becoming a resident of Lexington since my husband, my youngest daughter and I moved here in 2004, I’m now retired from the Federal Government and have returned to my love, photography.

My images have been displayed at Apples, Arts and Antiques as well as the Blue Springs Art Show, Got Art in Lee’s Summit, the International Photographers Competition (IPC) in Atlanta Georgia and the World Cup competition in Japan.  My concentration is mainly scenery and portraits.  I view participating in competition as striving for perfection in photography encompassing all facets of the art.

I’m currently starting to add painting to my artwork using my images as references after receiving additional education over the last several months, most recently completing an intense week in Louisiana with Darrell Chitty, Master Artist.  I’ll also be taking a class in Texas this year from Kimberly Smith. International Award-Winning Photographer.

Secretary

Evelyn Trigg

Evelyn has been with the Arts Council since its incepton. She loves the art of performing. She has been with the local theater group, The River City Players for over 30 years. Not only has she done over 20 plays here, but also performed on the City Stage in Kansas City's Union Station and at the Johnson County Community College.
